Born in 1995 on the 15th as a Gemini
Molded to the core, molted to the soul
Cooled to steel and cold rolled
A zodiac boar, hear my roar
My Name is Steven "PÖLLIXX" Volor
Most of you know my story from my work in my band Caster Volor that as a child, my older brother Caster had gifted me a guitar as he couldn't play and sing at the same time, so I was asked to play a riff for him while he sang the words to it. From that point on, I found a genuine interest in playing the guitar and music itself. We had also started our band right then and there. No experience, no knowledge, no abilities... nothing. As the years passed, we learned how to play and perform. We auditioned a vast array of musicians until we completed our line-up in 2017 and released a debut EP in April of 2018.
Fast forward to March 2020, we played our last show opening for FLAW at Skyway Theatre when the government ordered a state mandate to quarantine. We respected the orders and remained inside. After a few weeks, when the regulations slightly lightened up, my brother and I decided to get together at our studio as he had just spent over $2,000 on new equipment that our band Caster Volor was supposed to begin recording a well overdue full-length album with.
Out of mere curiosity and boredom, I set-up my drum-set and fully mic'd it, so that I could lay down some tracks to hear what they would sound like with the new gear. Since, I knew how to play the song, Breaking The Law by Judas Priest on all instruments, I laid down the drum tracks first. Then the bass guitar, lead guitar tracks, and finally we recorded Caster Volor's vocals.
I took these tracks home and began mixing them. I must've mixed the entire song in one day because I was so pleased and excited with how well it turned out. The next day, we were back in the studio and I started recording yet another track that we as a band had scrapped. The following week I had recorded another scrapped song. We became so addicted to this process that we decided to go way back in time to the songs we had written 10 years ago when we first picked up our instruments.
We made changes to the lyrics, and I completely re-composed all of the music. After we had written and recorded all of our scrapped and old songs, I decided to write my own lyrics that I could sing myself. I figured since we cannot meet as a band due to further complications with the state of the world, I would put together a solo project as a way to keep our current fans engaged as well as make new ones and being a solo project, I wanted to sing a few songs myself, so I did.
6 months later, we wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered 11 songs with 2 more that were written after the album was completed. I decided these two songs would be singles to come before the full length record.
My first single, "Life Is But A Moment" is scheduled to be released on Friday, November 13th to all streaming services. You can pre-order the song on Band Camp and listen to it ahead of time. The song, "Life Is But A Moment" like most good art, holds multiple meanings and tells multiple stories. One way to understand this song is that time is truly short, so what the fuck are you going to do with it? Are you going to stay quarantined for the rest of your life? Are you going to live in fear? Are you going to following your dreams, or let them fade away? In a way, what if the world had ended on April 1st? We would have spent our last couple weeks on earth sitting at home doing poorly executed home work-outs, eating take-out in our underwear, and really wasting time.
This isn't a political song by any means to say that I side or DO NOT side with the government or that you're wrong and I'm right, it is simply posed as a question for YOU as the listener to decide and put in perspective. We may ask ourselves this question regardless if there was a pandemic and most of all regardless of age. It really spoke to me during the quarantine as I'm sure it did to many others.
PÖLLIXX is a project where I was able to openly experiment with writing music. These singles, and the album have such a diversity in rock-heavy metal that there is music for mostly all to love. I'm very excited to release all of this music to you and I hope you enjoy it. Stay tuned and stick around for the ride because we love rock 'n' roll and we're here to stay.
